Do You Need a Referral To See a Chiropractor?
No.
In Kentucky, chiropractors are direct access providers meaning no referral is needed for nearly all insurances. In almost every case you can make an appointment with us without the need for any other doctor or insurance company employee giving you approval first. Chiropractors can perform an examination, treat, and refer to other doctors as needed.
Most insurances we accept have no referral requirements, including all Kentucky Medicaids (Aetna, Humana, Anthem, UHC, Passport, WellCare), major medical insurance (Humana, Aetna, Anthem, MedBen, UMR, etc.), automobile coverage for injuries suffered in an acccident.
Some insurances do require pre-authorization after the initial visit, but this is something we handle with the insurance company for you . The only referral exception we are currently aware of is for patients who have VA benefits and would like to be seen under the VA Community Care Network. These patients will need a referral from the VA in order to have the VA pay for the treatment rendered. Our consultations are always free, however, and all are welcome to schedule a consultation for further information. We would be happy to help you out with any questions you may have with VA treatment or other insurance issues.
